Rep. Bowman (D-NY) reacts to GOP comparing him to Jan. 6 rioter as he pleads guilty to pulling Capitol fire alarm.

House Representative Jamaal Bowman of New York was charged by Capitol Police with pulling a fire alarm in the Capitol Building shortly before the House voted to approve a spending bill that would keep the U.S. government from shutting down. Republicans alleged that he had pulled the alarm to delay the vote so the Democrats could gather more support, but Bowman admitted to pulling the alarm but said it was a mistake: “I was not trying to disrupt any congressional proceedings.”

House Republicans Kevin McCarthy and Marjorie Taylor Greene compared Bowman’s action to the January 6 riots at the U.S. Capitol to prevent the certification of Joe Biden’s presidency. Bowman shrugged the comparison off: “I mean, this is what they do. They weaponize any opportunity they can. This is what they did in this situation, just so we don't focus on their own dysfunction and destruction of their own party.”
