Rep. Anthony D'Esposito (R-NY) introduces resolution to expel Rep. George Santos (R-NY), noting indictments and lies.

Republican House representative Anthony D’Esposito of New York introduced a resolution to expel fellow New York Republican George Santos from the House of Representatives.

George Santos, who was elected this year to New York’s 3rd congressional district in Long Island and Queens, stands accused of both numerous crimes and breaches of professional ethics.

D’Esposito told the House floor that Santos “lied about a significant portion of his background, including his education and previous employment,” referring to Santos’ now-debunked claims that he worked at several Wall Street investment firms, and that he “has a long history of misrepresenting his and his family's connections to major events,” after disproved claims that his grandmother survived the Holocaust, that his mother was a 9/11 survivor, and that four of his employees died int he Pulse nightclub shooting.

The most serious questions about Santos are unresolved criminal cases including the allegation that he, in D’Esposito’s words, “stole over $44,000 from donors by charging their credit cards without authorization” and then transferred the “money to his own bank account to buy luxury items and pay off debt.”

D’Esposito’s list of lies and criminal allegations ran a full 2 and a half minutes before calling for Santos’ expulsion. Santos pleaded not guilty to all charges, and maintains his innocence.
