James Biden, the brother of President Joe Biden, arrived on Capitol Hill for a closed-door interview with the House Oversight and Judiciary committees Wednesday as part of Republicans’ impeachment inquiry into the president.
Biden’s interview comes a week before the president’s son, Hunter, is set to appear for his own testimony. Hunter Biden’s interview comes after a lengthy dispute between Republicans and the president’s son over the logistics of his sit-down with congressional lawmakers.
These two high-stakes interviews mark a critical phase for Republicans in their investigation into Biden — the result of which could determine the fate of their probe, which is currently flailing.
A former FBI informant was recently indicted by a Justice Department special counsel for allegedly lying about the Biden family’s overseas business dealings. The development was a stinging setback for Republicans, who had cited the claims in their push to impeach the president. While speaking on Fox News in January, House Judiciary Chair Jim Jordan (R-OH) said, “The most corroborating evidence we have is that 1023 form” which detailed in informant’s allegations.
