Pro-Palestinian protesters interrupted President Joe Biden's speech on Monday condemning white supremacy at Mother Emanuel AME Church in Charleston, South Carolina — the site of the 2015 racist massacre, where nine Black parishioners were shot to death by the white stranger they had invited to join their Bible study.
“If you really care about the lives lost here, then you should ... call for a ceasefire in Palestine,” one of the protesters shouted.
Churchgoers responded to the protesters’ interruption by chanting, “Four more years!”
“I understand their passion, and I've been quietly working with the Israeli government to get them to reduce and significantly get out of Gaza. I'm using all that I can to do that,” Biden said from the pulpit.
“You’re an understanding person. They don’t realize that. You’re a good man,” one churchgoer yelled out to the president from the audience — which received cheers and applause.
“Well, thank you,” Biden replied.
