Renowned oncologist and bioethicist Dr. Zeke Emanuel told MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” on Monday morning there isn’t “any disagreement” that President Joe Biden had prostate cancer “while he was president,” and assessed that Biden’s had the cancer for “maybe even a decade.”
The office of the former president announced Sunday that Biden was diagnosed on Friday with an aggressive form of prostate cancer that has spread to his bones.
“He’s had this for many years — maybe even a decade — growing there and spreading,” Emanuel told “Morning Joe” co-host Joe Scarborough.
“It’s been around for a very long time in President Biden — years,” Emanuel also said. “Exactly how many, we don’t know, obviously. And it is a little surprising to many of us oncologists that he wasn’t diagnosed earlier.”
“So, this is not speculation,” Scarborough later interjected to clarify. “If you have prostate cancer that has spread to the bone, then he’s most certainly, you were saying, had it when he was president of the United States.”
“Oh, yeah,” Emanuel replied. “He did not develop it in the last hundred, two hundred days. He had it while he was president. He probably had it at the start of his presidency, in 2021.”
“I don’t think there's any disagreement about that,” the doctor added.
