Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre was asked whether the White House ever digitally alters photographs amid the drama in the United Kingdom surrounding the Princess of Wales.
The AP, AFP, and Reuters all released kill notifications to media outlets over a photo of Kate Middleton and her three children released by Kensington Palace on Sunday, announcing that they would no longer distribute the image. The AP wrote, “It appears that the source has manipulated the image.”
“Does the White House ever digitally alter photos of the president, vice president, first lady, or second gentleman before they’re released?” CBS News’ Ed O’Keefe asked at Tuesday’s White House press briefing.
“Digitally altered? Not that I know of. I would say no. Why would we digitally alter photos?” Jean-Pierre replied.
“Are you comparing us to what’s going on in the UK?” Jean-Pierre continued. “Why does the monarch have to do anything with us? No, that is not something that we do here.”
