President Joe Biden says he is not “confident at all” that there will be a peaceful transfer of power in 2025 if Donald Trump loses the general election.
“If Trump loses, I’m not confident at all,” Biden told Robert Costa in a portion of a “CBS Mornings” interview that published Wednesday evening. “He means what he says. We don't take him seriously. All the stuff about, if we lose, there'll be a bloodbath, it’ll have to be a stolen election.”
“Look what they're trying to do now in the local election districts where people count the votes. They're putting people in place in states that are going to count the votes, right?” the president continued. “You can't love your country only when you win.”
The segment marked Biden's first sitdown interview since he exited the presidential race last month amid Democratic pressure.
His comments come as Trump has pushed, without evidence, claims that Democrats are attempting to steal the 2024 election. Trump, like he did in his last two presidential elections, has refused to promise that he would accept the results if he loses.
