Nikki Haley: “The first party to retire its 80-year-old candidate is going to be the party that wins this election.”

Speaking to supporters in New Hampshire after losing the GOP presidential primary, 2024 candidate Nikki Haley took a swipe at President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump for their age. Biden and Trump won their respective primaries in the state. Biden, who was not on the ballot, won the primary over challengers Dean Phillips and Marianne Williamson after supporters started a write-in campaign.

“Most Americans do not want a rematch between Biden and Trump. The first party to retire its 80-year-old candidate is going to be the party that wins this election. And I think it should be the Republicans that win this election,” Haley told the crowd.

Haley’s defeat in New Hampshire was a significant blow to the former South Carolina governor and UN ambassador’s hopes of winning the Republican presidential nomination — the Granite State was viewed as Haley’s best chance to win a state and gain momentum in the primary contests, as she trails Trump by large margins nationwide.
