Former Fulton County special prosecutor Nathan Wade’s media consultants interrupted him mid-interview as he was beginning to answer a question from CNN’s “The Source” host Kaitlan Collins about his romantic relationship with District Attorney Fani Willis.
The DA’s relationship with Wade has been central to the efforts of defendants in the Donald Trump 2020 Georgia election interference case to disqualify Willis.
“Just to clarify: when did the romantic relationship between the two of you start?” Collins asked in an interview that aired Wednesday night.
“Yeah, so, you know, we get into, there’s been this effort to say that, okay, these exact dates are at issue, and these exact dates are — I’m getting, I'm getting signaled here —” Wade began saying as members of his team came into the shot and removed Wade’s microphone.
Wade then engaged in a pull-aside with an adviser before he returned to his seat to continue the interview.
“Everything okay?” Collins asked.
“Yeah,” Wade replied.
“Just to revisit the question: it was to clarify when the romantic relationship started and when it ended,” Collins said.
“Sure. So, you know, I believe that the public has, through the testimony and other interviews, the public has a clear snapshot that this is clearly just a distraction,” Wade responded. “It is not a relevant issue in this case, and I think that we should be focusing on more of the facts and the indictment of the case.”
Collins proceeded to press Wade on the matter.
