President Donald Trump on Thursday mused in the Oval Office that the two NASA astronauts stuck in space could one day "love each other."
"We love you, and we're coming up to get you," Trump said, as he responded to a question about the astronauts from Fox News' Peter Doocy. "And you shouldn't have been up there so long."
Trump later described the astronauts as the two "that Biden and Kamala left up there."
Suni Williams and Butch Wilmore have been stuck in the International Space Station for nine months after a Boeing Starliner's capsule they were testing suffered technical difficulties and returned to Earth empty.
"The most incompetent president in our history has allowed that to happen to you," Trump continued. "But this president won't let it happen. We're going to get them out. We're coming up to get you."
Trump said that he authorized Elon Musk, SpaceX CEO and adviser spearheading DOGE, to retrieve the astronauts. They are poised to return in SpaceX’s Dragon capsule within the next few weeks.
"Maybe they'll love each other," Trump suggested. "I see the woman with the wild hair — good, solid head of hair she's got."
"There's no kidding," the president added. "There's no games with her hair."
