Man who attacked Las Vegas judge dons shackles, handcuffs, spit mask, and gloves for sentencing on unrelated charges.

Deobra Redden, who drew national attention last week when courtroom video showed him hurling himself at Clark County District Court Judge Mary Kay Holthus, returned to Judge Holthus’ courtroom on Monday to complete the sentencing hearing that his violent outburst had interrupted.

Redden entered wearing shackles, handcuffs, a spit mask, and gloves.

Judge Holthus sentenced Redden to up to four years for an April 2023 battery charge. She emphasized that his actions last week did not affect her sentencing decision and said any charges related to his attack last week would be handled by a different judge.

“For purposes of the record,” Judge Holthus said, “I want to make it clear that I am not changing or modifying the sentence I was in the process of imposing last week before I was interrupted by defendant’s actions.”

Judge Holthus was injured in the attack, as was a court marshal and the judge’s law clerk, officials said.
