Jeffries calls GOP’s Mayorkas impeachment effort a “distraction”: They have “no bottom, no vision, no track record.”

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) on Monday railed against the Republican Party’s “sham” efforts to impeach Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas.

House Republicans took a significant step forward Sunday in their effort to impeach Mayorkas by formalizing their allegations in impeachment articles ahead of a vote in the Republican-led Homeland Security Committee this week. House Republicans want to impeach Mayorkas for what they call his failure to manage the U.S.-Mexico border.

“The do-nothing Republican Congress has no bottom,” Jeffries said at a Monday news conference in Washington, D.C. “They have no vision, they have no track record, and they have made no progress for the American people.”

“Extreme MAGA Republicans have done nothing about the economy, nothing about inflation, nothing about housing, nothing about health care, and nothing about public safety,” the minority leader continued.

“All they are endeavoring to do, with respect to this sham impeachment, is to run away from their do-nothing, extreme record and try to distract the American people with this political stunt,” he added.

A Cabinet official has not been impeached since 1876.
