On October 26, U.S. Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene, a Republican from Georgia, introduced a resolution to censure Representative Rashida Tlaib, a Democrat from Michigan of Palestinian descent for “antisemitic activity, sympathizing with terrorist organizations and leading an insurrection at the United States Capitol Complex,” referring to an October 18 pro-Palestinian protest that spilled into an office building at the Capitol site.
House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, a Democrat from New York, was asked about the resolution, and had this to say: “The notion that with all of the challenges we are confronting right now, House Republicans are racing to once again lift up something that Marjorie Taylor Greene is doing tells us that their focus continues to be in the wrong place.”
He implied the resolution was a distraction from “issues like inflation and affordability and the cost of food and creating better paying jobs,” and that the House Democrats would continue to focus on bringing “economic opportunity” to American communities.
