“It’s literally the law”: White House press sec. is asked if Texas is defying Supreme Court ruling on border wire.

At Friday’s White House press briefing, Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre was asked whether the Biden administration thinks that Texas is “failing to comply with court orders around placement and removal of razor wire.”

“Well, I mean, the Supreme Court is the highest, you know, court of the land. It is. And they made a ruling and, you know, on Tuesday, as you guys probably saw, DHS sent Texas a letter outlining the access of Border Patrol needs in Shelby Park, for example, to do their jobs and demanding Texas confirm this access will be honored. Border Patrol needs to have access in order to do their job. They just do. And, you know, what we’re seeing from Gov. Abbott, you’ve heard me say this over and over again, they’re making it harder. He’s making it harder for Border Patrol to do their jobs. They need access. They need access. And right now, they don’t have that. And it’s under the Constitution of the United States, a federal law is the supreme law of the land. And any conflicting state is preempted. That’s the law,” Jean-Pierre said.

“So, you think they’re failing to comply with the court’s orders?” a reporter pressed.

“I mean, it’s the law. It is literally the law,” Jean-Pierre responded. “What we want is Border Patrol to be able to do their jobs. And right now, Gov. Abbott is getting in the way.”
