During a recent press conference, a reporter asked House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) if he would comply with a subpoena he received from the select committee investigating the January 6 attack on the Capitol. McCarthy is one of several GOP lawmakers recently subpoenaed by the January 6 panel

The reporter also asked about a tape recording of McCarthy speaking to Republicans, during which McCarthy said that former President Trump bore some responsibility for the January 6 insurrection.

McCarthy said he hadn’t given thought to the subpoena and used the opportunity to change topics, beginning with blaming Democrats for the shortage of baby formula. McCarthy claimed Democrats knew for over a year that there would be a shortage. He went on to say he was focusing on “how we're going to stop the Democrats from raising the gas prices even higher." McCarthy also said he was worried about the security of the border, citing the potential end to Title 42, the Trump-era immigration policy that restricted border crossings, declaring, “Every city has become a border city.”

McCarthy stated that the January 6 committee was “only being used to go after political opponents.”
