Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) vows if elected that he won’t provide amnesty to any migrants who enter the U.S. illegally.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, who has been responsible for some of the strictest anti-migrant regulations in the country, promised debate audiences that if he were president of the more than 10 million undocumented immigrants living in America, the number that “will be amnestied when I'm president is zero.”

He went on to say that the amnesty concept will “cause more people to want to come illegally. […] And it creates a magnet for people coming in. So federally, no benefits, no enticements to come in. And then the states, we're gonna crack down on sanctuary states and sanctuary cities. And I showed the hypocrisy of all this back in 2022 because we have a program to transport illegal aliens to sanctuary jurisdictions.”

He then falsely claimed that when he sent 50 migrants to "beautiful, liberal Martha's Vineyard,” they were all “deported them off the island the next day.” In actual fact, they were all transitioned into long-term housing in the region and their visa applications are being processed.
