Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) points to “liberal, soft-on-crime policies” in the wake of the Lewiston, Maine mass shootings.

In the wake of the Lewiston, Maine shootings that killed 18 people, Fox News anchor Brian Kilmeade told Ron DeSantis that that 6 in 10 Americans support an assault weapons ban and are worried about mass shootings. He asked how DeSantis would “tackle” the issue, especially as a father of young children.

Despite the shootings in Lewiston occurring in a bowling alley and bar, DeSantis said that the state of Florida strengthened security in schools and assured him that “school security is very, very important.” But, according to DeSantis, blaming millions of gun owners is not the answer. According to him, too many violent criminals, like Robert Card who is suspected of the Maine shootings, “go in and out of the justice system because of liberal, soft-on-crime policies. You do a crime, you should do the time. Stop cycling people back out. That will make communities safer, and Biden doesn't want to do that.”
