Gov. Ron DeSantis and Nikki Haley have an awkward moment when asked what they admire about each other.

During a contentious political debate on January 10, Republican candidates Ron DeSantis, governor of Florida, and Nikki Haley, former governor of South Carolina and former U. S. Ambassador to the United Nations, were asked what each admires about the other. The two, who have sparred in every debate, tried their best.

Governor DeSantis heaped general praise on the state of South Carolina, and spoke at some length about how she “spoke out strongly on some key issues [while representing the United States at the United Nations], and I appreciated that.”

Haley, when it was her term, managed just seven words: “I think he's been a good governor.” There was a short pause as the moderator and crowd waited for her to elaborate, but she didn’t, and then DeSantis replied “Okay.”

The two governors are the only contenders still standing who qualify for the debate, except for former president Donald Trump who refused to attend any of the primary debates. They went head-to-head in this debate, making the moment even more charged.
