Gov. Kevin Stitt (R-OK) criticizes a decline in U.S. marriages and signs a proclamation declaring Nov. “Family Month.”

Governor Kevin Stitt of Oklahoma declared November “Family Month” to counter the statistical decline in U.S. marriages.

As he signed the proclamation, Stitt cited statistics about the decline in marriage and the effects thereof, like that “married men ages 18 to 55 are twice as happy compared to their single peers” and that “less than 5% of households with a married mom and dad are in poverty.”

He continued on the theme of poverty, saying “families working together are lifting themselves out of poverty. We can't just pass laws. […] It starts with churches getting involved and helping people walk through certain stages of their life to really change the world. It's been said, as the family goes, so goes society. And I truly believe that. I want Oklahoma to be the most pro-family state in the nation. So I'm proud to be the first governor to sign a proclamation to dedicate an entire month to the celebration of the great families that make up the state of Oklahoma.”
