“Get off the mat and get back in the ring”: Rep. Greg Casar says time for Democrats to grieve election loss is over.

Rep. Greg Casar, the chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus (CPC), said the time for Democrats to grieve the 2024 election loss is over, during a CPC press conference targeting Elon Musk and his Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) on Thursday.

“This is a national emergency. In the aftermath of the election, many Democrats needed time to soul search, to grieve, to think,” the Democrat from Texas said. “But that time has ended. And that time ended when Elon Musk took control of our country’s financial nuclear codes.”

“It’s time for all of us to get off the mat and get back in the ring,” Casar added. “We’re going to fight smarter. We are going to fight harder. And CPC is going to lead that charge.”

Axios reported that the phone lines of Democratic lawmakers have been ringing off the hook with constituents demanding they “do more.”

“I can’t recall ever receiving this many calls. People disgusted with what’s going on, and they want us to fight back,” Rep. Jim McGovern (D-MA) told Axios. “We had the most calls we’ve ever had in one day on Monday in 12 years,” Rep. Mark Pocan (D-WI) also told the publication. And former House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-MD) told the news website that his office has received “hundreds, maybe thousands” of calls.

But Democrats differ on their party’s best path forward.
