Former governor of New Jersey Chris Christie suspended his presidential campaign on Wednesday, January 10, shortly before a Republican debate and competing Fox News Town Hall with former president and current Republican candidate Donald Trump. On his last day, Christie was caught on a hot mic saying, presumably of surging GOP challenger Nikki Haley, she’s “gonna get smoked and you and I both know it. She’s not up to this.”
Most of the Christie voters are expected to shift to Haley, who is Trump’s most vocal opponent left in the primary, which might be enough to challenge Trump’s lead in the upcoming New Hampshire primaries.
Asked about the Christie news, Trump said that it wasn’t much of a story because “nobody cared too much about that,” and the real story was the hot mic. Christie’s comments, he said, were “one of the few things he’s been right about, actually.” The audience laughed.
