Deputy State Dept. spokesperson Patel says U.S. continues to “press Israel” after death of journalist Shireen Abu Akleh.

Following the release of the IDF’s report in the killing of American-Palestinian Journalist Shireen Abu Akleh, Deputy State Dept. spokesperson Patel says U.S. continues to “press Israel” regarding accountability measures for her death.

SAYID: “The Israeli’s obviously know who the soldier is, you know? And they said basically they are not going to press any charges. There will be no accountability. I mean that is an Israeli statement that you have supported. There will be no accountability. So how is that, how does that juxtapose with, you know, you talk about the family, your thoughts are with them, you know, all this good stuff. But how are they, how are they going to receive accountability or justice in this case?”

PATEL: “Again, Sayid. We continue to press Israel, directly and closely at the senior-most levels to review its policies and practices on this to ensure that something like this doesn't happen again in the future.”
