Dean Phillips: “I think Vice President Harris’ talents have been completely ignored, frankly, by President Biden.”

Rep. Dean Phillips (D-MN), a long-shot challenger for the 2024 Democratic nomination, noted that he thinks Vice President Kamala Harris’ talents have been “completely ignored” by President Joe Biden, when a New Hampshire voter asked him Thursday who would be his presidential running mate:

“I will not opine yet or share names that I might even be thinking about, but I will tell you strategically how I intend to do it. The vice presidency should be among the most important positions in the entire world, and it is. The fact of the matter is, presidents do not empower their vice presidents to actually develop their skills, to actually help lead the country, to help operate it. I think Vice President Harris’ talents have been completely ignored, frankly, by President Biden. And I think most vice presidents suffer in silence because they’re not afforded the opportunity to help actually lead this country. I will do this differently. I will choose somebody who has the competency to be the chief operating officer of the United States of America; who will be working side by side with me to operate the agencies, to ensure we have accountability, to help ideate and innovate ways to save money, deliver services better, and build relationships, not just go to funerals and ribbon-cuttings. That is the most preposterous injustice in democracy.”
