President Biden announced a "100% federal funding" commitment to help Puerto Rico with disaster relief following Hurricane Fiona. Hurricane Fiona made contact with Puerto Rico on Sunday, September 18th causing immense damage with intense rainfall and winds. The hurricane comes 5 years after Hurricane Maria decimated the island and killed around 3,000 people. Luckily, Hurricane Fiona is looking to be less deadly, but the hurricane destroyed an already unsteady infrastructure, primarily affecting the power grid, leaving millions of people without electricity.
BIDEN: “I’m announcing today that I've authorized 100%, 100% of federal funding for debris removal, search-and-rescue, power and water restoration, shelter and food for the whole month, 100%. There's no cost at all, Governor, to you. I mean there's a significant cost, I know emotional cost and others but whether it's a 100% funding for dirt and debris removal, search-and-rescue, power and water restoration, and shelter and food for the month.”
