The murder suspect in the killing of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson on Tuesday shouted at reporters ahead of his extradition hearing.
“It's completely out of touch, and an insult to the intelligence of the American people!" the 26-year-old suspect Luigi Mangione appeared to yell to the press, as the police escorted him into the courtroom. It is not entirely clear what Mangione was referring to with his screamed comments.
Mangione could be seen handcuffed and wearing an orange jumpsuit. During his hearing on Tuesday, Mangione chose to fight extradition from Pennsylvania to New York, where he faces murder charges. The suspect was denied bail.
The Ivy League graduate allegedly fatally shot the health insurance executive on December 4 outside a Midtown Manhattan hotel and later fled the state.
Mangione was arrested on Monday at a Pennsylvania McDonald's. He was later charged in New York with second-degree murder, forgery, and gun charges in connection to the killing of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson. The suspect had also been charged with five crimes in Pennsylvania.
