The January 6 committee revealed never-before-heard audio of Secret Service radio traffic as rioters stormed the Capitol.
The audio details how Secret Service officers were trying to identify a path to safety for Vice President Mike Pence past protesters who had, by this point, breached the capital. Chants of ‘Hang Mike Pence’ had been heard among the crowds, and a tweet at 2.24pm from President Trump’s account singled out his VP as having betrayed not only President Trump but the country at large by moving to certify the election results.
AUDIO: “If we lose any more time, we may have access to the second floor. And I've got public about five feet from a down here below. We have this. Insecure. However, we will bypass some protesters that are being contained. There is smoke. I know what kind of smoke it is. Copy clear, we're coming out now. All right, make a way.”
