White House Press Sec. Karine Jean-Pierre on Monday criticized South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem for suggesting that President Joe Biden’s dog, Commander, should be put down.

“We find her comments from yesterday disturbing. We find them absurd. And here, this is a country that loves dogs, and you have a leader talking about putting dogs down, killing them. And that's a disturbing statement to say,” Jean-Pierre said at the end of the White House press briefing. “She probably should stop digging herself in a hole.”

On CBS' “Face the Nation” on Sunday, the Republican governor suggested that Commander should be put down for biting more than a dozen Secret Service agents:

“Joe Biden's dog has attacked 24 Secret Service people. So, how many people is enough people to be attacked and dangerously hurt before you make a decision on a dog?” Noem said.

This follows published reports this weekend that Noem made a similar sentiment in her memoir, writing about what she would do if she was president in 2025: “The first thing I’d do is make sure Joe Biden’s dog was nowhere on the grounds (‘Commander, say hello to Cricket for me’).”

Noem’s seemingly callous words about canines comes after she doubled down last week on her accounts of killing Cricket for aggressive behavior.
