President Biden on Monday condemned Iran's strikes on Israel while meeting with Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani.

“Iran launched an unprecedented aerial attack against Israel and we mounted an unprecedented military effort to defend Israel. Together with our partners, we defeated that attack,” Biden said while speaking to reporters at the White House. “The United States is committed to Israel's security. We're committed to a ceasefire that will bring the hostages home and preventing conflict from spreading beyond what it already has.”

The prime minister was visiting the White House for talks intended to focus on U.S.-Iraq relations, which had been scheduled well before the Iranian strikes.“We're also committed to the security of our personnel and partners in the region, including Iraq,” Biden said. “Partnership between Iraq and the United States is critical.”

The U.S. in recent months has urged Iraq to do more to prevent attacks on U.S. bases in Iraq and Syria in the aftermath of Hamas’ October 7 attack on Israel.
